Suresh
Elamon always dreamt of being a naturalist and a
wildlife photographer. Popularly
known as the 'Bird & Butterfly man of Kerala'
he has been studying and photographing birds,
butterflies, wildlife and the spectacular beauty of
Kerala's forests right from a very young age. His
photographs and articles have appeared in numerous
national and international journals. His survey of
the butterflies of the Periyar Tiger Reserve
resulted in the rediscovery of the legendary
Travencore Evening Brown butterfly which was thought
to be extinct for several decades.
"Forests have
always fascinated me." says Suresh. "There
is nothing I enjoy than being in the depths of the
deepest evergreen forests of Kerala."
A life member of
the Bombay Natural History Society and a trustee of
Nature Trust, Trivandrum, he has collaborated with
the BBC in the making of wildlife films.
He now lives at
Trivandrum with his wife Nirmala and children
Swathee and Sudeep.
